Residential Property, Berkshire

Interior design concept for the living room.

The client had a beautiful 19th century former Coach house in Berkshire and was looking for a design that pushed both her and her husband’s boundaries. It was important to retain the character and integrity of the property whilst complementing the rest of the house. The space to work with was the living room and it is the heart of their home. With 3 young children it was important the room catered for all their needs. It had to be a grown-up space where they could entertain friends and family. A play area for the children and also a family space where they could enjoy time together playing games and watching movies needs to be catered for.

The client tended to lean towards a more neutral and subdued palette of creams and almonds but was keen to interject some colour and personality into the room. Over the years the client had collected and inherited some beautiful pieces of furniture which could be introduced into the space. This was a real treat as there were so many to choose from and a number that would work wonderfully in there .

It is always difficult from a client’s perspective when they are trying to cater for what they want but also needing to consider the other people living in the home. The client clearly had a bolder side to her that she was wanting to explore whilst her husband felt something a little less would be better. Combined with having 3 small children, it was important to ensure the design concept was hard wearing.

This was an amazing project to work on given the stunning home and being able to help the client be a shade braver. The concept introduced pockets of colour and playful designs in the fabric, armchair and the wall lights whilst still being functional and cohesive with the rest of the property.

The feedback received from the client was a glowing affirmation that the design ticked all the boxes for them.

“Alexis gave us a beautiful design for our living room.  She gave very detailed ideas, with a real flare for interesting design whilst taking into consideration our more classic taste.  She sourced all of the ideas within our budget and gave us a clear view of where to find all of the items, very thorough.  I would highly recommend Alexis”
