Residential Property, Leeds

Interior design concept for the living room.

The property was a period end terraced cottage. It had some beautiful period features including stone fireplaces, beamed ceilings and stone mullion windows.

The client brief was to create a living room scheme which respected the age of the property whilst injecting the client’s personality into the space. The client has a fondness for bold colours and patterns, describing their taste as an eclectic mix of styles. The budget was tight so careful consideration was given as to how to make the most impact whilst working with the available funds.

The client felt the space had lost its sense of identity. It needed to be an adult space; elegant and bold whilst encapsulating a cosy feel. It was important that the design not only reflected the personality of the client, it had to be something completely different to what they may have come up with themselves. A stylishly graphic yet soft geometric design wallpaper was selected in restrained, elegant colours which would complement the beams, creating a sense of harmony and light. It has a timeless quality which works well with the age of the property. The just off white paint on the skirting enhances the grain of the oak flooring and doors whilst harmonising with the wallpaper.

Texture was important to bring the room to life. Pairing wood with leather, velvet and reflective surfaces in the brass wall lighting and mirror created a cohesive feel befitting the property whilst having bags of style. The design was finished off with the oversized leaf pattern fabric of the curtains which had a dark teal background pairing beautifully with the other elements in the room.
