Spatial planning to determine the optimum layout for the kitchen/dining/living room, bedroom and dressing area. Interior design concepts were also created to bring the plans to life.

The Old Milking Parlour was previously run as two B&B rooms and the client wanted to turn them into one larger self-catering unit. Due to the shape of the main room that was to be the kitchen/dining/living room careful planning was required to ensure it accommodated the needs of the clientele whilst having an elegant, luxurious, calming and aspirational feel to it. There was also a requirement to knock through to allow access to what would now be the bedroom, dressing area and bathroom for the unit.

It was important to respect the building and its history whilst reflecting the beautiful setting. Consideration was also given to the client's branding, the types of guests that typically stayed when it was a B&B and continue to book in with repeat guests making up most of their bookings and the fact that it is dog friendly.

The client brief was to work within the parameters of the rooms and create something that was functional yet comfortable and welcoming. The client had two other units and it was important that the changes made to The Old Milking Parlour set it apart. It had to have an identity of its own. The design was to include all components required in the main living space whilst working with selected pieces of furniture the client was keeping in the bedroom. Key to the design was to make sure the space felt unified with adaptable lighting. It had to be a cohesive and practical space, taking into account the client’s personal tastes and those of their guests.

It was important that I gave my client a design that not only met the brief but exceeded it, giving them something they wouldn't either think of themselves or be brave enough to try.

The feedback received from the client was affirmation that the design more than met their design brief. I was also blessed with being the first guest to stay once the work had been finished and if you would like to stay then get in touch with Chrysta @ Village Farm

"We have been working with Alexis on the refurbishment of our B&B into self catering accommodation which are sited in the old outbuildings of our farm. I have been impressed throughout with Alexis professionalism and creativity. Alexis is really thorough and the approach she takes to the initial consultation is very good so she really understands your preferences and what you want to achieve with the space.

Our space is slightly awkward and she has come up with some great ideas. The design and colour palette she has come up with is fantastic - it is not something I would have been brave enough to go with on my own, but I am so excited to see the end result now.

I would highly recommend Alexis to anyone who is planning a refurbishment project - I will certainly be working with her again."
