Residential Property, Roundhay

Interior design concept for the living room, entrance and bathroom in a traditional Edwardian property in Roundhay.

The property was a lovely Edwardian semi-detached house in Roundhay with fantastic proportions and detailing that you would expect from a property of this age.

The client brief was to support the client with the living room. After having to undertake extensive work to transform the property back into a family home after having been unsympathetically carved up into the 3 apartments, it is not surprising that they had run out of steam, motivation and inspiration. The living room had a new ceiling along with cornicing to replace the damage as well as a replacement floor and had been decorated but it was not a room they enjoyed spending time it.

I was asked to reinvigorate life back into the living room, drawing on their personality whilst working with existing pieces of furniture and also introducing new elements. The client wanted a room they could escape to after a hard day’s work, entertain guests or sit quietly with a glass of wine and a good book. Consideration was given to their wider home, lifestyle and personality along with a painting and miners lamp which had sentimental value to the client. I also recommended a replacement lamp for the entrance hall and a mirror for the house bathroom. Sometimes all you need is to make a small change to make a big difference to lift a space.

This is a wonderful project which demonstrates that work can be undertaken in phases once the design concepts have been created ensuring there is a clear vision of what it will look like once it is all completed but work can be scheduled to suit.

The feedback received from the client was a glowing confirmation that the design met with their expectations.

"We approached Alexis to give us some help and inspiration with our living room, which we had fallen out of love with! We were at an impasse as to what to do with the space and how to make it more homely.

Alexis was great! She listened to our thoughts and ideas and challenged us to be braver and more creative with the space whilst also incorporating some of our existing furniture. Alexis was very approachable and worked within an agreed time frame and budget. We are very happy with her ideas and would definitely recommend V A Heritage."
